Apple will manufacture iPhones sold in America in India!

Apple, one of the biggest smartphone companies, aims to manufacture most of the iPhones sold in America in India. US President Donald Trump has imposed heavy tariffs on imports from China. Increasing manufacturing in India will make it easier for Apple to import iPhones to America at lower tariffs.

In a Bloomberg News report, citing sources familiar with the company’s plans, it has been said that for this, Apple will have to almost double the manufacturing of iPhones in India to more than 80 million units. In the last financial year, the company assembled a little more than 40 million iPhones in the country. More than 60 million iPhones are sold in America every year. Stock of iPhones is being accumulated in America to avoid the tariff imposed by Trump on imports. However, Trump has excluded computers, smartphones and some other electronic products from the tariff imposed on imports from China.

Apple representatives in India declined to comment on this. Apple ranked first in international sales of smartphones in the first quarter of this year. The company has benefited from increased demand in India and Japan and the launch of the iPhone 16e. The company has a market share of about 19 percent in the smartphone market. Apple’s sales in the US, Europe and China have remained flat or decreased. South Korea’s Samsung is second in the smartphone market with a market share of about 18 percent.

iPhone’s share in the export of smartphones from India in the last financial year was about Rs 1.5 lakh crore. iPhone manufacturing has grown rapidly in the country in the last few years. Apple’s contract manufacturer Foxconn assembled about 1.2 crore iPhones in the country last year. The assembly of the company’s affordable iPhone 16e, launched in February, has also started in the country. It will replace the iPhone SE introduced about three years ago. China has a major share in the manufacturing of iPhones. The company also plans to start manufacturing AirPods, MacBook and iPad in India.
