Meta removed 23,000 Facebook pages and accounts involved in investment fraud, check details
Legendary social media company Meta said that in March 2025, more than 23,000 Facebook pages and accounts involved in fraud were removed, which were used to target users in Brazil and India. Meta, a company that operates social media platforms like Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp, said that the fraudsters tried to defraud people in Brazil and India using technology like deepfake. According to Meta, these fraudsters were supporting fraudulent investment apps and gambling websites by misrepresenting personal finance content creators, cricket players and business personalities with the help of technology.
Efforts being made to raise awareness
According to Meta, the fraudsters used to send people to the messaging app for ‘investment advice’ and sometimes took them to a fake website. Meta said in a statement, “In March, we removed more than 23,000 Facebook pages and accounts that were involved in various fraudulent activities, which mainly targeted people from Brazil and India.” As part of efforts to raise awareness about fraud, Meta has provided information and easy tips to help people identify and protect themselves from fraud related to online investments and payments.
