Google will continue hiring engineers despite increasing use of AI

Sundar Pichai, CEO of Alphabet, which operates Google, one of the big tech companies, has said that the hiring of engineers will continue in the company. He said that despite the increasing use of Artificial Intelligence (AI), it cannot replace workers.

At the Bloomberg Tech conference, Pichai said that AI acts as an accelerator rather than an alternative to human talent. This makes it easier for the company to take advantage of more opportunities in emerging areas of technology. Pichai said, “I hope that our current engineering base will be expanded by next year.” This view of Pichai is different from other companies that see AI as a way to reduce costs.

American technology and e-commerce company Amazon, software company Microsoft and Meta, which operates social media platform Facebook, have laid off thousands of workers in the last few months. These companies are increasing their investment in AI. This has increased the possibility of AI replacing human workers in the tech industry. Pichai said that AI has increased the productivity of engineers. Some tasks are being done with the help of AI and engineers can be engaged in work with greater impact. However, Google has also invested billions of dollars in AI.

Recently, the company had said that Google One subscription service has more than 150 million subscribers. In this service, subscribers have to pay for cloud storage and artificial intelligence (AI) features. In February last year, about six years after the launch of Google One service, its number of subscribers exceeded 100 million. Along with this, Google introduced a paid plan with access to AI features. The price of this plan was $ 19.99 per month. However, access to AI features is not available for free users of Google One. This service has a low-priced plan for features like file storage. For the past few years, Alphabet has been facing tough competition from AI chatbots like OpenAI’s ChatGPT. Increasing subscriptions to Alphabet’s Google One service could help strengthen its financial position in the long term.
