JSW Paints may buy a large stake in Dulux paint manufacturing company

A big news is coming from the paint industry of the country. A big deal can happen between Parth Jindal-led JSW Paints and Netherlands company AkzoNobel. Under this deal, JSW Paints is preparing to buy about 74.76% stake in AkzoNobel India.

According to the information received, on June 25, 2025, the value of 74.76% stake of Dutch company AkzoNobel N.V. in AkzoNobel India was Rs 10,985 crore. However, in earlier reports, this deal was valued at Rs 9,000 crore. According to sources, both the parties can finalize the deal early next week.

Many companies were in the race for the deal

In May, Moneycontrol had given information about this possible deal in a report. The joint venture of Advent International and Indigo Paints and Pidilite Industries were also involved in this race. After May, a special agreement was reached between JSW and AkzoNobel. However, no official information has come from both the companies yet.

How will JSW Paints benefit from this deal?

The acquisition will strengthen JSW Paints’ presence in the decorative paints segment. The company, which does paint business with the Dulux brand, will benefit from the distribution network. JSW Paints was started in May 2019. The company has set up two factories for industrial coatings in Vasind, Maharashtra and decorative paints in Vijayanagar, Karnataka, with a total annual capacity of 1,70,000 kilolitres.

How has been the performance of Akzo Nobel India?

In the financial year 2024-25, AkzoNobel India’s revenue was ₹4,091.2 crore, which is 3% higher than last year. The company’s operating profit (EBIT) remained stable at ₹551.8 crores and profit increased by 13.5% to ₹428.6 crores. The company also announced a final dividend of ₹30 per share.

India’s paint industry, which is worth around Rs 70,000 crore, is witnessing rapid growth. Big companies like Asian Paints, Berger Paints and Kansai Nerolac are already present. Last year, Birla Group’s Birla Opus also entered this industry. Apart from this, Astral Paints, Pidlite’s Haisha Paints and JK Cements have also entered.
