Apple will close retail store in China for the first time: The company has a total of 56 stores there; now planning to open new stores in India-UAE markets

Tech company Apple has announced the closure of retail stores in China. The company will close its store located at Parkland Mall in Dalian city on August 9. This is the first time Apple is closing an outlet after opening its first store in China in 2008.

However, the company said that it is focusing on maintaining market share in China and opening new stores in markets like India, Saudi Arabia, and UAE.

The company will close the store due to re-branding of the mall

The company cited the changing business environment in the mall as the reason for this. Actually Parkland Mall was recently rebranded as Intime City. After the change in its management, many big brands closed their stores.

Apple said, due to the departure of many retailers from Parkland Mall, we decided to close our store. The company said that Apple’s second store in Dalian will remain open at Olympia 66 Mall, which is 10 minutes away from Parkland.

The company has 56 stores in Greater China, which account for more than 10% of its more than 530 global stores. Apart from China, Apple plans to open new stores in India, Saudi Arabia, UAE, and Detroit.

Apple is also focusing on production in India

Apple is focusing on iPhone production in India, moving away from China. 78% of the iPhones sold in the US are being made in India. According to market researcher Canalys, 23.9 million (2 crore 39 lakh) iPhones were made in India between January and June in 2025, which is 53% more than last year.

At the same time, according to research firm CyberMedia Research, iPhone exports from India (iPhones sent abroad from India) have also increased to 22.88 million (2 crore 28 lakh) units. In the same period last year (January to June), the figure of iPhone manufacturing in India was 15.05 million (1 crore 50 lakh). That is, it has increased by 52% on an annual basis.

Talking about business, in the first half of 2025, iPhones worth about Rs 1.94 lakh crore were exported from India. Last year this figure was Rs 1.26 lakh crore.
