BSNL will compete with private telecom companies, will get Rs 47,000 crore from the government

Government telecom company Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) plans to give tough competition to private telecom companies. The central government has planned a capital expenditure of Rs 47,000 crore to strengthen BSNL’s network. Last year, BSNL spent about Rs 25,000 crore on the installation of towers for 4G network.

The Department of Telecom (DoT) has quoted Telecom Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia as saying that BSNL plans to make a capital expenditure of about Rs 47,000 crore. Scindia has asked the company to increase the number of its customers by next year as well as increase the mobile service related business by 50 percent. Recently, in a meeting with the chiefs of BSNL’s circle and business units, Scindia had asked each unit to increase enterprise business by 25-30 percent and fixed line business by 15-20 percent. Along with this, this government telecom company has been instructed to improve the average revenue per user (ARPU).

BSNL has started new services in the last few months. These services include doorstep delivery of SIM cards. An online portal has been launched for this. Through this portal, customers will get SIM cards at their home. It will have options for prepaid and postpaid SIMs. However, before the delivery of SIM, customers will have to do self KYC (Know Your Customer) verification.

Recently BSNL launched 5G fixed wireless service. This is the first customized 5G FWA with indigenous technology without SIM. For this service, the company is initially charging Rs 999 for a 100 mbps plan and Rs 1,499 for 300 mbps. In this service, a modem is installed outside the subscriber’s premises and signals are transmitted from the nearest base station for wireless broadband service. Optical fiber is not required for this connection. BSNL’s 5G network can be launched soon. The company’s 5G service will be called Q-5G. In this, Q stands for Quantum. BSNL also plans to increase the equipment for 4G and 5G networks.
