No need for mobile phones to navigate, Amazon delivery agents will now wear AI glasses.

Amazon has launched new AI-powered smart glasses for its delivery associates, which claim to make the delivery process smoother and safer than ever before. The company says these smart glasses will act as a virtual assistant, providing delivery agents with real-time navigation, package scanning, and hazard alert information on a heads-up display. These glasses feature AI sensing functionality and computer vision technology, making delivery easier without needing to look at their phone.

According to Amazon, these smart glasses automatically activate when the delivery associate parks their vehicle. The heads-up display then displays important delivery information and turn-by-turn navigation. The company also notes that geospatial technology is used, providing accurate route tracking and location updates.

The AI glasses feature a multi-camera setup that can detect the surrounding environment, packages, and hazards along the route. Delivery personnel simply need to scan a barcode, and the package code, address, and delivery confirmation are displayed directly on the glasses’ display. This means delivery agents no longer need to repeatedly check their phones or packages.

These smart glasses will also come with a controller that can be attached to the delivery vest. It will include operational controls, a swappable battery, and an emergency button. Amazon stated that these glasses also support prescription and transitional lenses, meaning they automatically adjust to light.

It has also been reported that future models will be able to perform real-time defect detection and immediately alert associates if a delivery is being delivered to the wrong address. Furthermore, they will be able to provide warnings about potential hazards such as low-light environments or pet detection.
