Starlink, the satellite broadband arm of Elon Musk’s ambitious company SpaceX, has begun recruiting in the country, taking a major step toward its entry into the Indian satcom market. This recruitment drive is crucial to strengthening Starlink’s local operations in India and ensuring regulatory compliance. According to a report in the Economic Times, Starlink’s Indian headquarters will be located in Bangalore. The first phase of the recruitment drive is focused on finance and accounting. According to job postings posted on SpaceX’s career portal and LinkedIn, Starlink has invited applications for four key positions.

Recruitments for These Positions

  • Accounting Manager: Oversees financial reporting, statutory compliance, and internal controls.
  • Payments Manager: Processing and risk management for domestic payment methods such as UPI, RuPay, and cards.
  • Senior Treasury Analyst: Builds local treasury infrastructure and manages foreign exchange operations.
  • Tax Manager: Direct and indirect tax compliance, transfer pricing, and audit coordination.

All positions will be 100% onsite.

All positions will be based in Bangalore, which will be the hub of Starlink’s Indian operations. Starlink has clarified that all positions will be 100% onsite. Remote or hybrid working will not be an option, and only candidates with valid work permits in India can apply.

When will the launch begin?

This recruitment process comes as Starlink is preparing for its commercial launch in India by late 2025 or early 2026. The company is currently working with the Department of Security (DoT) and law enforcement agencies for final approval. According to sources, Starlink has applied for 600 gigabits per second capacity through its Gen 1 satellite constellation. Spectrum has been temporarily allocated for testing, although the company has only received approval to import 100 terminals for stationary satellite service testing.

Strict National Security Regulations

The Indian government has imposed strict operational requirements on Starlink to ensure national security. Starlink has been directed that only Indian citizens can operate its gateway stations. Foreign employees will be permitted to operate gateway stations only after obtaining specific approval from the Ministry of Home Affairs. Starlink’s move will directly challenge giants like Jio and Airtel in the Indian satcom market, potentially revolutionizing the availability of high-speed, low-latency internet.
