Netflix Announces Acquisition of Warner Bros. Studios: Deal worth ₹6.47 Lakh Crore will expand the OTT platform’s content library

OTT platform Netflix has announced the acquisition of Warner Bros. Studios for $72 billion, or ₹6.47 lakh crore. This deal is a major merger in the entertainment industry, combining streaming and traditional media.

According to the company, this acquisition will further strengthen its content offerings. Netflix CEO Ted Sarandos said, “This deal will take our growth to new heights. Warner’s films and shows will become part of our library, giving users more options.”

The announcement was made after a company board meeting. Under the deal, Netflix will acquire Warner Bros. Discovery’s (WBD) film and television studios and streaming platforms (HBO Max and HBO).

Netflix to pay Warner Bros. in cash and stock

The deal is worth $72 billion, with the majority of the payment in cash and the remainder in Netflix shares. Warner Bros. is part of Warner Bros. Discovery, which was already being pursued by several bidders. According to reports, Disney and Amazon also placed bids, but Netflix made the highest offer.

The deal is expected to close in the first quarter of next year, subject to regulatory approval. Netflix currently has 300 million subscribers worldwide, while Warner Bros. serves over 130 million users. This merger will bring both audiences together on a single platform.
