This State to Get a New Airport, Cabinet Gives Approval, Check Details

The number of airports in India is constantly increasing to facilitate air travel for passengers. In this regard, the Andhra Pradesh cabinet has approved the Dagadarthi Greenfield Airport in Nellore district. Giving a significant boost to Andhra Pradesh’s aviation and industrial infrastructure, the state cabinet approved the Dagadarthi Greenfield Airport on Saturday. With this approval, Dagadarthi will become Andhra Pradesh’s 8th airport, strengthening the state’s vision of building a future-ready, multi-route transportation and industrial network.

Excellent Connectivity to Major National Highways and Ports

The Dagadarthi airport will be strategically developed in a location that is well-connected to major national highways, two major ports – Krishnapatnam Port and Ramayapatnam Port – and several industrial areas such as KRIS City and IFFCO SEZ. This unique locational advantage will make the airport crucial in boosting the development of factories, exports, agri-transportation, and the service sector in southern Andhra Pradesh. The project has already received in-principle approval from the Ministry of Civil Aviation, Government of India. Proposals have been invited from private companies for the development, operations, and maintenance of the project.

Dagadarthi Greenfield Airport to be Developed on 1332.80 Acres

The Dagadarthi Greenfield Airport will be developed in several phases on 1332.80 acres. The first phase of the project is planned to handle 1.4 million passengers annually, with a long-term plan to increase the capacity to 15 million passengers per year. The master plan also includes a future cargo facility, which will support industrial production and port-related businesses in the region. It is worth noting that Mumbai’s second international airport was recently inaugurated in Maharashtra. The Navi Mumbai International Airport has not only provided a new option for air travel to people living in and around Mumbai but has also reduced the burden on Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport.
