Now foreigners can also use UPI, NPCI launches UPI One World for AI Summit
The National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) has launched UPI One World, a UPI-based payment service, exclusively for delegates from over 40 countries at the five-day summit, India AI Impact Summit 2026. The service is currently in a pilot phase. The service is designed to facilitate transactions between individuals and merchants without requiring an Indian bank account or mobile number at the New Delhi International Airport and the AI Summit. Delegates from several countries are participating in the AI Summit, including prominent Silicon Valley figures.
Sohini Rajola, Executive Director, Growth, NPCI, said, “UPI is the world’s largest real-time payment system. The ‘UPI One World’ service at the India AI Impact Summit provides foreign delegates with information about India’s digital payment system. This initiative provides a glimpse into how cross-border payment systems can foster a more connected global digital economy.”
The wallet is available through authorized issuers at New Delhi International Airport and the NPCI pavilion at the AI Summit. Travelers can deposit funds into the wallet using an international debit or credit card and complete the transaction by scanning a standard UPI QR code. A maximum of ₹25,000 can be loaded per transaction through this service, with a monthly limit of ₹50,000. At the end of the trip, the remaining funds will be returned to the same payment source, in accordance with foreign currency exchange regulations.
This new UPI service will eliminate the hassle of carrying cash or complicated currency exchange. NPCI processed 21.70 billion transactions in January 2026. Through this integration at the India AI Impact Summit, NPCI aims to introduce global policymakers and tech giants to India’s digital infrastructure.
