Apple prepares to open a corporate office in Chennai, begins hiring for several positions
Apple, the maker of the globally popular iPhone, may soon open a new corporate office in India. The company has begun hiring for this office in Chennai, Tamil Nadu. Sales of Apple iPhones have grown rapidly in the country over the past few years. The company has also expanded its manufacturing operations. The company already has offices in Bengaluru and Hyderabad.
Apple’s official job portal has invited applications for several positions in Chennai. These include jobs related to retail, development, operations, and supply chain. These positions include technical specialists, manufacturing quality engineers, business experts, and enterprise and subject matter experts. In addition to Chennai, the company has also begun hiring for several positions in Hyderabad, hinting at the opening of a new Apple store in Hyderabad.
Apple plans to expand its business in India. The company sees good long-term growth potential in the country. The company may soon open its second store in Mumbai. This will be Apple’s sixth physical store in the country. Recently, Apple opened its fifth store in the country in Noida. The company opened its first store in the Jio World Drive mall in Mumbai’s Bandra Kurla Complex. Additionally, Apple stores are located in Saket, Delhi, and Bengaluru and Pune. Apple has also expanded its manufacturing in India. Over the past few years, the company has exported over $50 billion worth of Made-in-India iPhones.
Apple CEO Tim Cook hinted at opening additional stores in India during the December quarter results announcement. He stated that the company set a revenue record in the December quarter. Apple’s revenue in India has grown by double digits. Sales in India have grown rapidly in the past year, with the company shipping approximately 14 million iPhone units in the country. With this, the company’s market share has increased to nine percent, up from around seven percent in the previous year.
