Apple plans to buy AI startup Perplexity: Deal may happen for ₹1.21 lakh crore; If this happens, it will be the company’s biggest purchase
Tech giant Apple is planning to buy Artificial Intelligence (AI) startup Perplexity. According to a Bloomberg report, this deal between the two companies can happen for $14 billion i.e. about Rs 1.21 lakh crore.
If this deal happens, it will be Apple’s biggest purchase till date. Earlier in 2014, Apple bought consumer electronics company Beats for $3 billion i.e. about Rs 25,974 crore.
What is Perplexity?
Perplexity is an AI based search engine, which answers questions in real-time and works like a conversation. This startup is rapidly gaining fame in the world of AI. Right now this deal is in the initial stage.
Apple’s Mergers and Acquisitions (M&A) head Adrian Perica, Services Chief Eddy Cue and senior AI team members have met with Perplexity several times. However, no information has been revealed by either company about this deal yet.
Apple can also enter into a partnership
The report also says that instead of buying the entire company, Apple can also enter into a partnership with Perplexity. Perplexity’s AI technology can also be added as a search option in the Safari browser, or can be used to make Siri smarter.
Apple’s deal with Google in danger
Apart from this, Apple’s $20 billion search deal with Google is in danger, as it is under investigation in the US court. In such a situation, in a world moving towards AI-based search, Perplexity can open a new path for Apple.
Samsung is also in talks with Perplexity
Apart from this, there is news that Samsung is also close to partnering with Perplexity. If this happens, the path may become difficult for Apple and it may have to take a big decision soon.
At present, the deal between Apple and Perplexity is only in discussion, but if it turns out to be true, then Apple’s dominance in the world of AI may increase.
