Air India can buy new Boeing aircraft: It will take a loan of ₹1,700 crore for this; the plane of this company crashed in Ahmedabad

Air India is planning to take a bank loan of about 200 million dollars (about 1,700 crore rupees) to buy Boeing 777 aircraft.

According to the Economic Times report, the company will buy these aircraft from an American leasing firm. The loan for this will be taken through Air India’s subsidiary AI Fleet Services IFSC Limited, which is registered in GIFT City, Gujarat.

This could be the company’s first aircraft purchase after the Ahmedabad plane crash. On June 12, Boeing Company’s 787 Dreamliner plane crashed in Ahmedabad in which 260 people lost their lives.

Air India can buy 11-13 year old aircraft

According to a Bloomberg report, these Boeing 777 aircraft will be purchased from an American leasing company. These are 11 to 13 years old and are being used on long-haul routes like India-USA. Air India is facing delays in the delivery of new aircraft and supply chain problems.

These aircraft are necessary for long-haul flights, as the delivery of new aircraft will take time. Currently, Air India has a total of 191 aircraft, including 64 widebody and 127 narrowbody planes.

Talks to purchase 200 new aircraft

According to a Reuters report, Air India is in talks to buy about 200 new single-aisle (narrow body) aircraft from Airbus and Boeing. Air India has already ordered 470 aircraft in 2023. Apart from this, 100 Airbus aircraft were ordered last year. However, most of these were single-aisle aircraft. The new deal will be for wide body aircraft.

The airline has ordered 470 aircraft for ₹6 lakh crore

Air India had ordered 470 aircraft from Airbus and Boeing two years ago. According to Air India CEO Campbell Wilson, the value of this deal is $70 billion (about ₹6 lakh crore). Under the deal, Air India will get 250 aircraft from Airbus and 220 aircraft from Boeing.

Under the deal with Airbus, 40 wide body A350 aircraft, 210 narrowbody single-aisle A320 Neos aircraft were to be received. Whereas, the deal with Boeing is worth $34 billion (about ₹2.9 lakh crore). Under this, Air India is going to get 190 B737 Max aircraft, 20 B787 aircraft and 10 B777x aircraft.
