BSNL launches e-SIM service, also preparing to bring 5G network soon

Government telecom company Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) has launched e-SIM service. This service has been launched in Tamil Nadu circle. The company has said that this service will soon be made available across the country. With this, customers will not need to use physical SIM card for the company’s mobile service.

BSNL has said that customers will be able to get immediate activation for this service. Customers will have to visit BSNL’s Customer Service Center (CSC) for e-SIM. However, for this the device must be compatible with e-SIM. For this service, customers will have to complete digital know-your-customer (KYC) verification. It is available for both existing and new customers of the company.

e-SIM services of private telecom companies Reliance Jio and Bharti Airtel are already available. BSNL has launched 4G service in the capital Delhi. This government telecom company has offered this service through a network sharing agreement with a partner. Along with this, the company has also started anti-smishing and anti-spam protection across the country to protect users from SMS messages with fake links. Recently, the Department of Telecom (DoT) had said that the central government plans to make a capital expenditure of about Rs 47,000 crore to strengthen the company’s network.

Telecom Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia has also asked the company to increase the number of its customers by next year as well as increase the business related to mobile service by 50 percent. 5G network of private telecom companies is present in a large part of the country. To compete with these companies, BSNL needs to launch 5G service soon. This government telecom company is also considering monetizing its assets to increase cash flow. BSNL plans to upgrade its 4G network to 5G. Recently, the company launched 5G fixed wireless service. This home broadband service has been launched in Hyderabad, Telangana. BSNL’s 5G service will be called Quantum 5G.
