27,000 employees, 11 million tons of steel annually… Naveen Jindal preparing for a major foreign purchase
Jindal Steel International, a company of the Naveen Jindal Group, has submitted an offer to acquire Thyssenkrupp Steel Europe (TKSE), Germany’s largest steel company. This offer is still in its preliminary stages. The company said in a statement that it will discuss the acquisition of TKSE with Thyssenkrupp AG. Jindal Steel has submitted a non-binding offer for TKSE. The deal price has not yet been disclosed. Thyssenkrupp Steel is a large manufacturer of high-quality steel, employing 27,000 people and producing approximately 11 million tons of steel annually.
Thyssenkrupp AG has also stated that it has received an offer from Jindal Steel International to acquire TKSE. The company stated that the Thyssenkrupp AG board will carefully consider the offer. We will examine how economically viable this proposal is, whether it will help protect the environment, and whether it will protect the jobs of its employees. Jindal Steel says it has the money, experience in steelmaking, and a desire to work towards environmental sustainability. The company wants to produce high-quality steel in Germany.
Complete control will be granted.
Narendra Mishra, Director of Jindal Steel’s European Operations, said, “We want to produce green steel in Germany and Europe. Green steel means minimizing environmental damage during steel production. We want to build on Thyssenkrupp’s 200-year-old legacy and make it Europe’s largest low-pollution steel company.”
Jindal Steel International also announced that it will build a hydrogen-powered plant in Oman by 2027. Additionally, it will invest more than 2 billion euros to install new electric arc furnaces in Germany. Electric arc furnaces are furnaces that use electricity to produce steel. The company will also import iron ore from mines in Cameroon. This iron ore will be used in its plants in Oman and Germany. This will give the company complete control from mining to steelmaking.
What will be the benefits?
The company says its proposal will ensure the safety of steel production in Germany and will also benefit industries such as automobiles. Thyssenkrupp
wants to make its business leaner and more efficient. Therefore, it wants to sell some of its businesses. If Jindal Steel International acquires TKSE, it would be a major success for Thyssenkrupp, as previous attempts to sell TKSE have failed. One major reason for this is that the company has to pay approximately 2.7 billion euros for employee pensions. This is a huge amount, which is making the sale of TKSE difficult.
