Perplexity launches Comet AI browser in India, your privacy is completely guaranteed!
Perplexity AI has launched its Comet AI browser in India. The company is currently trying to capitalize on the world’s second-largest internet market. However, it is only available in the country for Perplexity Pro subscribers.
What is Comet AI like?
The Chromium-based browser combines a standard web interface with an always-on AI sidebar. The company describes it as a “browsing-to-thinking” shift. Comet AI can manage multi-step workflows, such as comparing product prices, booking meetings, drafting and sending emails, or completing transactions on behalf of users. It also acts as a research assistant. It can also summarize documents and track projects in separate tabs.
Works on these platforms:
Comet is available for Windows and macOS. While pre-orders have begun for Android, iOS support will be released soon.
Announcing the launch in a post on the social media platform X, Perplexity co-founder and CEO Arvind Srinivas said that Comet is not a simple web browser, but a “thinking partner.”
To accelerate adoption, Perplexity has partnered with Airtel, giving millions of Airtel users free access to Perplexity Pro for a year. The company is also hiring in India, indicating a greater investment locally.
Privacy!
On the privacy front, Perplexity says that Comet stores browsing history and AI interactions locally, with end-to-end encryption by default. The browser integrates with password managers and is being marketed with enterprise-grade compliance features to appeal to businesses as well as individuals.
India’s digital market is rapidly becoming a battleground for AI players. By introducing Comet first in India, Perplexity hopes to differentiate itself with a product that promises less clutter, more automation, and an AI tool that doesn’t just answer questions, but manages the entire workflow.
