1.2 million employees of central agencies shift to Zoho Mail: Audit found safe; Home Minister Amit Shah joined 7 days ago

Following Union Home Minister Amit Shah, now more than 1.2 million employees of central agencies have also shifted to the Zoho Mail platform. This move was taken to combat rapidly growing and constantly evolving cyber threats, develop digital literacy among employees, and strengthen data security.

Zoho is an Indian multinational technology company that provides cloud-based software and business tools services. Founded in 1996 by Sridhar Vembu and Tony Thomas, headquartered in Chennai, the company offers 80 app services, such as Artei Messenger and Zoho Mail, in 160 countries.

Efforts began after the AIIMS server was hacked. The central government’s shift to the Zoho platform is not a sudden development. Rather, it followed three years of intensive research and investigation. In fact, in 2022, hackers took control of five AIIMS servers and over 1.3 TB of data. This caused significant losses to the government. This highlighted the need for an indigenous communication system.

In 2023, the Union Ministry of Information and Broadcasting issued a tender to provide secure mail services. Zoho Mail won the tender. Subsequently, the National Informatics Center audited Zoho Mail on 20 confidential security parameters. Security agencies such as the Indian Computer Emergency Response Team conducted independent security audits of Zoho Mail, resulting in Zoho’s trust.

Zoho Mail is developed by an Indian company

Zoho Mail is an email client entirely owned by the Indian company Zoho Corporation. It was developed by Zoho’s founder, Sridhar Vembu. It is an ad-free platform that serves both personal and business users.

The company claims that end-to-end encryption ensures data security and that no information is shared with advertisers.

On this platform, users get separate tabs for personal, business, and promotional emails, as well as features like calendar, notes, and contacts.

Zoho also launched a WhatsApp alternative.

Recently, Zoho launched its messaging app, Arattai, which sparked a discussion about Indian technology. Zoho founder Sridhar Vembu has consistently promoted its indigenous products. Arattai is a Tamil word meaning conversation. This app features audio and video calls and quotes.

ZOHO has developed not only Arratai but also many other software and apps. Now, over 50 of ZOHO’s cloud-based software are used by over 10 million people in over 180 countries. It is widely used in sectors such as email, accounting, CRM, and HR management.
