After IndiGo, this major airline will launch direct flights between India and China; flights will depart from Delhi to Shanghai from this day; see timings and fares.
India-China direct flight: The long-stalled air connectivity between India and China is set to return to normal. After five years, direct flights between the two countries are set to resume. Following IndiGo, China Eastern Airlines has also announced plans to launch direct flights between India and China. The airline will begin direct flights between Delhi and Shanghai from November 9, 2025.
This move follows the recent agreement between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping. Both leaders spoke of advancing relations as development partners, not rivals. Modi visited China last month during the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) meeting, his first visit to China in seven years. Since then, efforts to revive economic and air ties between the two countries have intensified. India’s Ministry of External Affairs also announced earlier this month that commercial flights between the two countries would resume. These flights were suspended in 2020 following a border dispute. This new decision brings relief to travelers and businesses from both countries.
Flight Details
China Eastern Airlines’ flights from New Delhi to Shanghai will begin on November 9th. According to reports, these flights will operate three days a week (Wednesday, Saturday, and Sunday). The flight will depart Shanghai at 12:50 pm (local time) and arrive in Delhi at 5:45 pm, while the return flight will depart Delhi at 7:55 pm and arrive in Shanghai at 4:10 am (local time) the following morning.
Fares and Booking
The airline has kept its introductory ticket prices affordable to attract travelers. Economy class fares from Delhi to Shanghai start at around ₹22,350, while business class tickets start at ₹88,950. Ticket bookings have already begun on the airline’s website and other travel portals.
IndiGo is also in the fray.
IndiGo Airlines is also launching daily non-stop flights between Kolkata and Guangzhou. This means that Indian travelers will now have two major airline options for traveling to China: one from Kolkata and the other from Delhi.
