Truecaller Introduces New Family Feature to Protect Families from Scam Calls
Truecaller has launched a major new feature in its app, aiming to make digital safety a shared experience among families. The company is calling it Family Protection, and it’s available directly within the Truecaller app on both Android and iOS. The idea behind the feature is simple: family members can work together to protect each other from scam calls and fraud. Notably, for Android users, the Family Admin has the ability to identify suspicious incoming calls to any family member in real time and even remotely disconnect the call if needed.
Family Protection allows up to five people to join a group, and the Family Admin manages the safety settings for the entire group. The admin can set call blocking levels, update the blocklist, and determine how unwanted calls are handled. On Android, this feature goes even further, offering real-time support. For example, if a scam is suspected, the admin will receive an instant alert on their phone and can directly end the call. Furthermore, the admin can view family members’ battery levels, phone activity, and availability to provide timely assistance when needed.
Truecaller states that Family Protection is completely free, but it’s also opening up new avenues for user engagement and premium subscriptions. If a family wants even more protection, they can opt for the Truecaller Premium Family plan, which includes advanced spam blocking, automatic rejection of high-risk numbers, and an ad-free experience. According to the company’s strategy, this feature will contribute to both long-term subscription growth and user retention.
The launch is currently being piloted in four markets: Sweden, Chile, Malaysia, and Kenya. The company plans to expand to several major markets, including India, in Q1 2026. Truecaller says that the gradual rollout will allow them to gather feedback from early users, enabling a more refined launch in larger markets like India.
