India’s largest car manufacturer, Maruti Suzuki, is set to significantly expand its presence in Gujarat. The company has signed an agreement with the Gujarat government for an investment of ₹35,000 crore to set up a new manufacturing plant in Khoraj (Gandhinagar district).
The investment letter was handed over in Gandhinagar in the presence of Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel and Maruti Suzuki MD Hisashi Takeuchi. This new plant is expected to create approximately 12,000 jobs in the state.
Annual Production Capacity of 1 Million Cars
The new plant in Khoraj will be spread across 1,750 acres of land. The company aims to manufacture 1 million (10 lakh) vehicles annually at this facility.
The Gujarat Industrial Development Corporation (GIDC) is providing the land for this project. With this investment, Gujarat will further solidify its position as a major automobile hub in India.
Target of 4 Million Vehicles by 2031
Maruti Suzuki aims to increase its total production capacity to 4 million units annually by 2030-31. Currently, the company’s capacity is around 2.4-2.5 million units.
The Khoraj plant will play a significant role in achieving this vision. The company recently also commenced work on its new plant in Kharkhoda, Haryana.
12,000 Direct and Millions of Indirect Jobs
Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel welcomed the investment, stating that it will not only create 12,000 direct jobs but also boost small and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) in the surrounding areas.
This will create a complete ‘auto cluster’ in the state. Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghavi also described it as a proud moment for Gujarat’s growth story. Maruti Sets Production Record in 2025
The past year has been exceptional for the company. In 2025, Maruti Suzuki manufactured over 22.55 lakh vehicles, the highest figure in the company’s history.
Cars like the Fronx, Baleno, Swift, and Dzire contributed significantly to this record. The company also registered a 21% growth in exports.
Japan-India Partnership to Strengthen
This project will also take industrial relations between India and Japan to new heights. Maruti Suzuki MD Hisashi Takeuchi said that Gujarat’s infrastructure and business-friendly environment are the reasons why the company is expanding its operations there. This plant is a major step towards realizing the ‘Make in India’ and ‘Made for the World’ vision.
