AM Green Group Enters Historic Partnership with UP Government, to Establish 1 GW Compute Data Center in Greater Noida

AM Green Group, a leading energy transition platform backed by the founders of Greenko Group, and Invest UP, the investment promotion agency of the Government of Uttar Pradesh, have entered into a major agreement. AM Green Group today announced the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the UP government to establish a 1 GW (gigawatt) data center to service global AI workloads. AM Green will establish an AI infrastructure hub in Greater Noida, Uttar Pradesh. This large-scale project will be developed in phases, with the first phase commencing in 2028 and the full 1 GW capacity targeted for commissioning by 2030, representing a total investment of $25 billion.

This partnership between AM Green Group and the UP government underscores AM Green’s commitment to creating a sustainable, carbon-neutral digital economy and aligns with Uttar Pradesh’s vision of becoming India’s leading data center hub. This project will involve a multi-billion dollar investment in establishing a GW-scale data center, incorporating approximately 500,000 of the latest high-performance chipsets, and will be one of the largest investments in the country to date, aligning with the Government of India’s Developed India 2047 vision, aimed at accelerating the expansion of AI-powered services.

Powering the Future of AI and High-Performance Compute

As India’s demand for high-performance computing (HPC) and artificial intelligence (AI) workloads grows, this facility will be designed to meet the needs of global hyperscalers, frontier labs, enterprises, and India’s sovereign AI initiatives at scale and speed, utilizing carbon-free energy.

AMG AI Labs is working on developing an AI full-stack ecosystem with the most efficient on-demand electron-to-token architecture. The AI Labs ecosystem will encompass capabilities across multiple areas with end-use cases in energy, infrastructure, hardware installation, customized models, and applications, including energy, healthcare, sovereign cloud services, manufacturing, automotive, media, and gaming.

This HPC compute capacity will also provide the broader Indian developer community with access to chipsets to rapidly develop AI solution stacks for global and domestic use.

The data center will feature:

Scalable Infrastructure: A phased rollout, with the first capacity becoming operational by 2028 and scaling up to the full 1 GW capacity by 2030.

Strategic Location: Leveraging Uttar Pradesh’s robust industrial corridors and favorable data center policy to provide low-latency and highly reliable connectivity to growing digital markets.

Green Energy Integration: Leveraging AM Green’s leadership in renewable energy, this facility will be powered by 24/7 carbon-free energy solutions, including wind, solar, and pumped storage.

A Catalyst for Economic Growth

This MoU was exchanged at the World Economic Forum in Davos in the presence of senior government officials and AM Green’s leadership team. This project is expected to attract significant foreign direct investment (FDI) into the region and create thousands of high-skilled jobs, fostering a local ecosystem for hardware manufacturing, software development, and specialized cooling technologies.

Anil Chalama Setty, Chairman of AM Green Group, said, “Today, AI has become integral to our daily lives. The development of a global AI ecosystem with intent, intelligence, and adaptability will be a critical tool for current and future generations. Our entry into the AI full-stack ecosystem is a natural extension of our technology-first approach to our businesses and provides integrated end-to-end solution stacks for multiple industries.” AM Green President Mahesh Kolli said, “By combining 1 GW of computing capacity with our 24/7 green power solutions, we are not just building a data center; with the support of the Uttar Pradesh state government, we are creating a sustainable template for the future of global AI infrastructure.”
