Amazon Hit by Another Round of Layoffs: E-commerce Giant Cuts 1,000 Jobs Globally; India Also Affected
Amazon, the world’s leading e-commerce and technology giant, has initiated another round of layoffs aimed at streamlining its corporate structure. According to a Reuters report, this latest workforce reduction has resulted in the loss of fewer than 1,000 white-collar (corporate) jobs globally, affecting employees in the US, India, and the UK. This decision comes while the company’s major ‘Prime Big Deal Days’ shopping event was underway.
Affected employees in India and the UK were informed of the decision via internal Slack channels. This latest move by Amazon—following the elimination of approximately 30,000 corporate jobs between October 2025 and January 2026—indicates that the restructuring process within the global tech sector has not yet fully ceased.
Which departments and employees are most affected by the layoffs?
These new cuts by Amazon primarily focus on the company’s ‘Stores’ business, which oversees its core e-commerce operations. According to reports, teams working in customer service and selling partner services have been the most affected, though other teams are also likely to be impacted. Confirming the cuts in a statement cited by Reuters, an Amazon spokesperson said that the move is part of an effort to adjust a limited number of roles within the Stores division.
According to the spokesperson, “We have made changes in certain parts of our Stores business because we believe this structure will better enable us to meet our priorities.” While outlining the assistance available to those affected, the company also clarified that it is providing all possible support to every employee impacted by this change and restructuring.
