The Union Cabinet approved the amendment to the DTH service guidelines; there will be convenience in business

The Central Government has given a big relief to the Direct to Home (DTH) industry of the country. The Union Cabinet on Wednesday approved amendments to the guidelines for providing DTH service. With these amendments, licenses for DTH will be issued for a period of 20 years. It currently has a duration of 10 years.

100% FDI will also be allowed

The proposal was approved in the Union Cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. After the meeting, Information and Broadcasting Minister, Union Minister Prakash Javadekar said that by approving the amendment in the guidelines in DTH services, 100% FDI in the DTH sector will also be allowed. Explain that this change will pave the way for 100% FDI i.e. foreign investment in the DTH sector. Earlier the FDI limit in this sector was only 49%.

He said that the Commerce Ministry had talked about 100% foreign direct investment in the DTH sector but this was not happening due to the guidelines of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, hence the need to improve these guidelines.

License fee will be charged every three months

According to the ministry, the license fee will now be charged every three months in place of the current annual basis. In addition, DTH operators will be allowed to operate up to a maximum of 5% of the total allowed platform channels shown by them.
