5G in India: No more waiting for 5G, network may take up to three months

Experts in the telecom industry say that 5G network in India can be set up in three months. But, it will be in limited areas only. According to them, the optical fiber-based framework is not yet ready to support this technology. Therefore, more work needs to be done in this area.

Decide on 5G services network

Amit Marwah, head of marketing and corporate affairs at Nokia India, says India needs to take concrete decisions on the 5G services network. Otherwise, it will miss taking advantage of the next generation of technology. Marwah said, “If we don’t start 5G soon, we will probably miss it. 5G is not a money-making sales channel for operators. It is the need of the hour to create new economic value in the country and the world.”

Use of native equipment

Sandeep Aggarwal, chairman of the Telecom Export Promotion Council, emphasized that 5G should use locally manufactured equipment. He said that India should have control over it for security purposes.

Cannot make complete technology on its own

Arvind Bali of the Telecom Sector Skills Council said that the country cannot manufacture the entire technology by itself. It will need to seek the support of others. He said that the production based incentive (PLI) scheme is a step in the right direction in terms of making India self-reliant and creating employment opportunities.
