New appointment in Jet Airways: Airline appoints Sanjeev Kapoor as CEO, has also held senior positions in SpiceJet and Vistara

Jet Airways has appointed Sanjeev Kapoor as Chief Executive Officer (CEO). Sanjeev Kapoor has headed the revenue and strategy department at SpiceJet and Vistara airlines. He was the Chief Operating Officer (COO) at SpiceJet and Chief Strategy and Commercial Officer at Vistara. On Thursday, he resigned from the post of President of the Oberoi Hotel. Now soon he will join Jet Airways.

Prior to Kapoor, Jet Airways had appointed PP Singh as Accountable Manager at the top level. Singh was earlier also associated with Jet Airways. He was the head of JetLite, a subsidiary of Jet Airways. Jet already has around 150 employees and the airline is also in talks with vendors, including leasers, to resume operations.

Difficult to start operation in first trimester

Jet Airways plans to resume operations during the first quarter of 2022. However, it seems unlikely and the airline will be able to start as planned. Jet Airways was grounded in April 2019 due to being in debt. Subsequently, in the bankruptcy resolution process, Jet Airways’ bid was won by a consortium of CalRock Capital and Murari Lal Jalan.

Dubai based businessman Hai Jalan

Jalan is a Dubai based Indian Origin businessman. On the other hand, CalRock Capital Management Limited is a London-based global firm working in the field of financial advisory and alternative asset management, founded by Florian Frech. Jet Airways has a fleet of 11 aircraft left, which includes Boeing 737 and 777, as well as Airbus A330 jets. But these planes are old.

Naresh Goyal started the airline

Jet Airways was started in the early 1990s by ticketing agent-turned-entrepreneur Naresh Goyal. He gave an alternative to Air India by starting Jet Airways. At one time, Jet had a total of 120 planes. The airline operated with the tag line ‘The joy of flying’. The airline was shut down on 17 April 2019 due to heavy debt.
