Google will shut down business in Russia, the company’s accounts have been frozen

Google is about to officially close its business from Russia. Russia has frozen the company’s local bank account, due to which the company will not be able to operate its business from there. Also, most of Google’s employees have already left Russia because of the Russia-Ukraine war. In a statement given to Wall Street General, Google has told about the difficulties in operating business in Russia.

Google has said in its statement to the Wall Street Journal that Russian authorities have frozen the company’s bank accounts in Russia, due to which it is difficult to pay salaries to employees, to payments to suppliers and vendors. Also, the financial requirements of the company are not being met.

Employees have left Russia after the war

Most of Google’s employees have left Russia after the ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine. These employees are currently working from somewhere else. According to sources, most of Google’s employees are working from the office in Dubai, where the company has a big office. How much loss will be caused to Google after the closure of business in Russia, it has not been disclosed at the moment.

Google’s bank account was frozen by a Russian court in March, after which the company has officially decided to leave the country. The court froze the funds of Google’s bank account, due to which Google could neither pay its employees nor its suppliers. At present, it is not clear how much amount of the company has been seized by the Russian court.

Associate companies also went bankrupt

Google’s subsidiaries have declared bankruptcy in Russia and cannot make payments, according to a regulatory filing. In March, Google stopped selling ads on Search, YouTube and other partner websites in Russia after the war between Russia and Ukraine broke out. Apart from Google, American companies Twitter and Snap have also stopped their services in Russia.
