Ratan Tata became trustee of PM Cares Fund: Amit Shah and Nirmala Sitharaman were also members, were formed during the Corona epidemic.

The names of the new trustees of PM Cares Fund Trust were announced on Wednesday. Ratan Tata, former Supreme Court judge Justice KT Thomas, former Lok Sabha Deputy Speaker Karia Munda, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and Home Minister Amit Shah have been made trustees. The announcement came a day after a meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, which was attended by Amit Shah and Nirmala Sitharaman along with new members.

After the trustees, an advisory board was also formed in the PM Cares Fund, which included many famous personalities. These include former India CAG Rajiv Mehrishi, former Infosys Foundation chairman Sudha Murthy, Teach for India co-founder and Anand Shah, former CEO of Indicorps and Piramal Foundation.

Started in 2020

PM Cares Fund was started on 28 March 2020 under the chairmanship of PM Modi. The purpose of the government through this fund is to provide relief in emergency and crisis situations like Kovid-19. This fund works entirely with the voluntary support of individuals or organizations. The Prime Minister is its ex-officio chairman and every amount paid in it is completely exempt from income tax.​

The trustees accepted contributions to the fund, including the PM Cares for Children scheme supporting 4,345 children.

Petition in delhi high court on legal status

In July 2022, the Delhi High Court had asked the Center to file a reply on Samyak Gangwal’s petition, seeking to declare the status of the PM Cares Fund. Delhi HC on 16 September has sought information on the legal status of the PM Cares Fund under the Constitution and the Right to Information Act.
