Center serves notice to Amazon, Flipkart and Snapdeal for selling toys without BIS mark.

Center Notice to E-Commerce Companies: The Central Government has issued a notice for sites like e-commerce website Amazon, Flipkart and Snapdeal. A notice has been issued regarding the toys being sold on these sites. The central government has seized 18,600 toys from several retail stores including Hamleys and Archies across the country.

The center has seized these toys due to lack of BIS quality certification. According to the PTI report, people are not selling toys based on BIS standard, due to which the quality of these toys is deteriorating. Regarding this, the Bureau of Indian Standards and Consumer Protection Regulator CCPA has issued notices to three major e-commerce companies Amazon, Flipkart and Snapdeal.

This toy is not on BIS standard

In the notice issued by CCPA to these companies, it has been said that the quality of toys being sold on these platforms is very poor. E-commerce websites are alleged to have violated the quality control order of toys and are not on BIS standard. Bureau of India Standards is the national standards body, which sets the standards of any product.

Action will be taken on shops under BIS Act

BIS Director General Pramod Kumar Tiwari said that information was received about the absence of these toys on BIS standards. After this, 44 raids were conducted last month and 18,600 toys were seized from retail shops. It was raided at Red Hamleys, Archies, WH Smith, Kid Zone and Cococart located at major airports and malls across the country and will be prosecuted under the BIS Act.

Compulsory to take BIS license

Nidhi Khare, head of the Central Consumer Protection Authority (CCPA), said that we have issued notices to Amazon, Flipkart and Snapdeal for selling without BIS quality. Explain that in 2020, an order was issued by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry regarding toy quality control, which became effective from January 1, 2021. Under this rule, it is mandatory for all toy companies to obtain BIS license.
