In the latest change, Musk has reduced the duration of parental leave from 140 days (20 weeks) to just 14 days (2 weeks). The latest change, according to internal company documents, has reduced child care leave for employees who become parents from 20 weeks to just 14 days, The New York Times reported. This change will affect more those employees who work in states in America where there is no paid leave policy.

Musk’s decision to reduce parental leave has been criticized by many, with many bashing the billionaire, saying it will leave mothers in several US states with little time to rest, recover and spend time with their newborns.


Paid parental leave is available in 12 states


According to a report in the New York Post, there is no federal law in the United States mandating paid parental leave. But there are 12 states in America that provide the facility of paid parental and medical leave to the employees. Employees in California are also allowed to take up to eight weeks of paid leave under US state law. Apart from this, both the states of New York and New Jersey allow up to 26 weeks of unpaid leave. This includes job-protected leave in addition to 12 weeks of paid leave.
