EV companies will refund charger money to customers: Chargers were sold separately with e-scooters to get subsidy.

India’s top electric two-wheeler makers will refund 100% of the cost of the charger sold with the e-scooter to the customer. Ola, Ather, Hero and TVS have informed the Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI) for this.


According to the report of CNBC-TV18, the companies are alleged to have kept the prices of their scooters low to claim subsidy under FAME-II, but charged customers separately in the name of charger and software. Not only this, companies were later charging money from customers in the name of software updates.


Companies will return Rs 287.83 crore


According to the report, the four companies will return around Rs 312.83 crore to their respective customers. In addition, the Ministry of Heavy Industries (MOHI) will be charging Ather around Rs 25 crore for not purchasing upgraded software and low battery capacity.


Which customers will get refund

The company will give a refund to customers who have purchased the Ola S1 Pro model from the financial year 2019-20 to March 30, 2023.


TVS will give this money as a refund to the customers who bought the IQube S between May 2022 and March 2023.


Hero MotoCorp will refund the charger money to customers purchasing the Vida V1 Plus and Vida V1 Pro models till March 2023.
