Shocking decision of Chinese companies amid World Cup, will not sell TV in India, know the reason

New Delhi: China’s top electronics companies OnePlus and RealMe have stopped the production and sale of televisions in India. Both the companies had achieved a good amount of business in the smart TV market of India but suddenly they have decided to exit this business. Chinese company Xiaomi is number one in India’s smart TV market.  Experts say that OnePlus and Realme will remain in the smartphone business. The question is, why did these companies stay away from the smartphone TV market at a time when TV sales in the country have increased significantly?

These companies had invested in TV sales channels and branding in India. The smart TV market in the country has recently gained momentum due to the internet boom and reduction in data prices. Besides, the growth of streaming services like Netflix, Amazon Prime and Disney Hotstar has also played an important role in the growth of smart TVs in the country. The media teams of OnePlus and Realme did not answer the questions in this matter. Both the companies have stepped away from the TV market at a time when TV sales in the country are witnessing a huge surge due to the Cricket World Cup. Besides, the festive season is also going on. Due to this, there has been a rise in the sales of all electronic items including TV.

There was a stir in the market

According to International Data Corporation (IDC), 45 lakh TVs have been sent to dealers in the country in the first half of this year, which is eight percent more than last year. During this period, the share of online sales in TV sales in the country has reached 39 percent. Apart from LG, Samsung, Sony, Panasonic, Chinese companies Xiaomi and TCL also sell TVs in India. Besides, domestic companies Vu and Thomson also sell TVs under brand licensing.

Chinese companies Xiaomi, OnePlus, Realme, TCL and iFfalcon created a stir in the Indian smartphone TV market in 2017-18. These companies had launched models that were 30 to 50 percent cheaper than LG, Samsung and Sony and soon established their hold on the market. Experts say that the strategy of Chinese TV brands was to capture the market quickly by cutting prices. This increased their losses. This is the reason why he has now left the TV segment. Their focus now is entirely on the smartphone market.
