PwC has fired 1500 employees. The company provides consulting and professional services and is one of the 4 largest global consulting firms in the world. The company has reduced 2% of its workforce and laid off 1500 people from the company. Two departments have been most affected in this layoff. Let us know in detail what is the reason behind the layoff.

PwC has laid off 1500 employees, after which the company’s workforce has reduced by 2%. These layoffs have been done mostly from the audit and tax departments. According to the Financial Times report, the company has said that the decision to lay off was very difficult, and it has taken it very carefully, very thoughtfully, and deeply aware of the impact it will have on people. The company said that considering that the number of employees has historically decreased over the years, it was necessary to take this step.

This is PwC’s second layoff within a year. Earlier, the company had also done layoffs in September 2024 when it laid off 1800 employees in the US. The company did this layoff as part of the restructuring exercise. The current layoffs have also been done by the company in the US. Despite the steady increase in profits, PwC has performed less than its competitors. According to Statista, PwC’s global revenue grew to $55.4 billion in 2024, up from $53.9 billion in 2023 and $50.3 billion in 2022. However, according to the report given by the Financial Times in 2023, its 11.8% growth during the same period lagged behind Deloitte (14.9%) and EY (14.2%).

Apart from this, four other big firms have done layoffs. These include Deloitte, which has laid off employees in the US in April 2025. At the same time, KPMG also recently reduced its 4% workforce in the US. PwC has also faced regulatory challenges in main markets. The firm was earlier embroiled in a controversy related to misuse of Australian government tax documents, after which the company’s image has also been negatively affected.
