44% of smartphones imported to the US are Made in India: India overtook China, smartphone manufacturing in the country grew 240% in a year

India has now overtaken China to become the largest exporter of smartphones to the US. This is an indication that the manufacturing supply chain is moving away from China amid the tariff war. According to research firm Canalys, Made in India accounted for 44% of smartphones imported to the US in April-June this year.

India’s share was just 13% in April-June last year. On the other hand, China’s share in smartphones exported to the US in the June quarter fell to 25% from 61% a year ago.

Smartphone manufacturing grew 240% in a year

Vietnam’s share in smartphone exports to the US was also higher than China at 30%. This is the first time India has sent more smartphones to the US than China. According to a Canalys report, smartphone manufacturing in India has grown by 240% compared to a year ago.

Apple is closing retail store in China for the first time

Apple has decided to close a retail store in China for the first time. The company announced that the Parkland Mall store in Dalian city will be closed on August 9.
