The country’s first Made In India chip will be known as ‘Vikram’, presented to PM Modi

Semicon India 2025: Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the ‘Semicon India 2025’ conference in Delhi today. This 3-day conference will focus on advancing a strong, robust and sustainable semiconductor environment in India. On this special occasion, Union IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnav presented the first chip made in India to Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The country’s first Made in India chip has been named Vikram. Vikram is a 32-bit microprocessor, built by India’s space agency ISRO (Indian Space Research Organisation).

Vikram will work at full capacity even in the worst conditions

The Vikram chip made in ISRO’s semiconductor lab has been completely manufactured in India. This chip is fully capable of being used in extreme conditions of space launch vehicles. Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnav said that this chip is capable of working to its full potential even in the worst conditions. Apart from the Vikram chip, Ashwini Vaishnav presented many other types of chips, which are being made by different companies. These other chips are test chips of 4 projects that have received approval.

The power of the 21st century is in a small chip

PM Modi said many important things while addressing Semicon India on Tuesday. He said that the world trusts India. The world is ready to build the future of semiconductors with India. PM Modi said that India is constantly moving ahead in the semiconductor sector and India is sure to become the third largest economy in the world. The PM said that the power of the 21st century is in a small chip.

Rs 1.5 lakh crore is being invested in 10 projects

In his address, the PM said, “In the year 2021, we launched the Semicon India program. By the year 2023, India’s first semiconductor plant was approved. In 2024, we approved additional plants. In 2025, we approved five additional projects. In total, more than Rs 1.5 lakh crore is being invested in 10 semiconductor projects. This reflects the world’s growing confidence in India.”
