Tata Motors Appoints Shailesh Chandra as New MD-CEO: Current CFO PB Balaji to be New CEO of JLR Automotive
Tata Motors announced several major changes to its top-level leadership. The company has appointed Shailesh Chandra as the new MD and CEO. PB Balaji, the current Group Chief Financial Officer (CFO), will become the new CEO of JLR Automotive. Both officers will assume their duties from October 1.
PB Balaji has resigned and will step down on November 17. Following PB’s departure, Dhiman Gupta has been appointed as Tata Motors’ new CFO, effective November 17. The company announced this management change in an exchange filing on September 26.
Shailesh Chandra: Role in Shaping the Electric Mobility Strategy
Shailesh has played a key role in shaping the company’s electric mobility strategy. He joined Tata Motors in 2016 as Head of Corporate Strategy and Business Transformation. He later became President of the Electric Mobility Business.
Before joining Tata Motors, Chandra was at Tata Sons from 2013 to 2016, where he worked in Group Strategy and the Chairman’s Office. Shailesh Chandra holds a B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering from Banaras Hindu University and a Management degree from the SP Jain Institute of Management and Research.
Chandra has also served as a non-executive director on the boards of Tata Technologies, Fiat India Automobiles, and overseas units such as Trilix S.R.L. Italy and Tata Motors Design Tech Centre PLC UK.
P.B. Balaji: Will be the new CEO of JLR Automotive
Tata Motors’ current CFO, Pathamadai Balachandran Balaji, was Group CFO since November 2017. During his eight-year tenure, Balaji played a key role in the company’s financial restructuring and transformation.
Balaji has worked at Hindustan Unilever Limited (HUL) for over 20 years. There, he served as Executive Director of Finance and IT and CFO. He started as a management trainee in 1993.
