Road Projects Worth ₹1.50 Lakh Crore, Including Pune-Sambhajinagar Expressway, Approved in Maharashtra; Check Details

Several road projects worth ₹1.50 lakh crore have been approved in Maharashtra, with work expected to begin in 2026. Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari, shared complete details on the matter on Saturday. ​​Speaking at the Vidhan Bhavan complex, Union Minister Gadkari stated that work on these projects will commence within the next three months. Gadkari, the Member of Parliament from the Nagpur constituency, was at the Vidhan Bhavan complex on Saturday to attend the centenary celebrations of the Legislative Council. While interacting with reporters there, he announced that the Maharashtra State Infrastructure Development Corporation (MSIDC) will construct a new Pune-Sambhajinagar Expressway at a cost of approximately ₹16,318 crore. The Union Minister added that the process for a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for this expressway has already been completed.

Pune to Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar Travel Time Reduced to Just 2 Hours

The new Pune-Sambhajinagar Expressway will reduce the travel time between Pune and Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar to just two hours. Additionally, the journey from Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar to Nagpur will take only two and a half hours. The minister said that the groundbreaking ceremony for the Talegaon-Chakan-Shikrapur elevated road, being built at a cost of ₹4207 crore, will be held after the completion of the local body elections. He added that the Detailed Project Report (DPR) process for the Hadapsar-Yavat elevated road is underway, and construction will begin after the elections.

₹50,000 Crore Road Projects Approved for Pune Region

The Union Minister stated that road projects worth ₹50,000 crore have been approved for the Pune region, and work will begin within the next three months. Union Minister Nitin Gadkari also mentioned that a new expressway, to be built alongside the existing Pune-Mumbai Expressway, will reduce the travel time between the two cities to just one and a half hours. This expressway is estimated to cost ₹15,000 crore. With this, the travel time between Mumbai, Pune, and Bengaluru will be reduced to five and a half hours. Nitin Gadkari stated that work worth ₹50,000 crore from these projects has been assigned to the Public Works Department (PWD).
