Layoffs: Now This Company to Lay Off 1,000 Employees; Cites Need to Boost Business Profitability
The world-renowned entertainment company, Walt Disney, is planning to lay off approximately 1,000 employees in the coming weeks. According to a report, these layoffs are expected to primarily affect the company’s marketing department. However, since this figure represents less than 1% of the company’s total workforce, the overall impact is considered to be limited.
As of the end of the 2025 fiscal year, Disney employed approximately 231,000 people. Consequently, a reduction of 1,000 jobs constitutes only a small fraction of the company’s total staff. The report further indicates that the plan for these layoffs was formulated even before the company’s new CEO, Josh D’Amaro, assumed his position in March.
Decision Taken to Boost Business Profitability
It is reported that the company is taking this step to reduce its operational costs and streamline its business operations. Disney’s new Chief Marketing Officer, Asad Ayaz, is also preparing to implement significant changes within the company’s marketing infrastructure. He has launched an initiative titled “Project Imagine,” aimed at consolidating the company’s various marketing departments and reducing expenses.
Asad Ayaz assumed responsibility for the company’s entire marketing operations in January. As part of this initiative, he is establishing a new, integrated marketing team to enhance the effectiveness of the company’s branding and promotional efforts. It is believed that this restructuring process has reduced the need for certain positions, thereby necessitating the current layoffs.
The company asserts that, in these changing times, controlling costs and simplifying operations has become essential. Particularly within the media and entertainment industry—amidst intensifying competition—companies are placing a greater focus on managing their expenditures.
While this news has undoubtedly heightened anxiety among employees, the company maintains that these measures are being implemented to ensure its long-term stability and strength. In the coming times, Disney plans to further improve its business and work on new strategies.
