Largest Funding in India’s Space Sector: Pixxel Raises ₹944 Crore; Company to Expand Satellite Network and AI Platform

Indian space-tech startup Pixxel has raised $100 million (approximately ₹835 crore). This marks the largest single funding round ever raised by a company in India’s space technology sector. The startup was founded in 2019.

With this new investment, the company’s total funding has reached $195 million (approximately ₹1,840 crore). The company will utilize these funds to strengthen its satellite network and develop its earth intelligence software platform.

Singapore’s Temasek and Seraphim Led the Round

This funding round for Pixxel was jointly led by Singapore’s state-owned investment firm Temasek and the UK-based space-tech venture firm Seraphim. Additionally, existing investors Radical Ventures and growX Ventures participated in the round. New investors, such as 360 One Asset and IMM Investment, also joined this round.

How Will the Company Use the New Funds?

According to the company, the newly raised funds will be used to enhance sensing capabilities and strengthen satellite infrastructure.

1. Honeybee Network: Deploying a Satellite Constellation in Space

Just as CCTV cameras are installed at various locations to monitor every corner of a city, Pixxel is building a vast network of small satellites in space. A larger number of satellites will enable the capture of fresh, high-frequency imagery covering every part of the Earth.

2. High-Resolution Satellites: Capturing Clear and Detailed Images from Space

These satellites will capture clear and detailed images of the Earth from space. This will allow for the clear observation of issues such as crop diseases, the condition of forest trees, or water scarcity from above. 3. Aurora Platform: Transforming space imagery into actionable insights

Satellites transmit images and technical data that cannot be easily interpreted through direct observation alone. ‘Aurora’ is a smart software solution that processes this complex data and generates reports in clear, straightforward language—identifying, for instance, areas prone to drought, locations of gas pipeline leaks, or fields requiring fertilizer.

A major milestone for India’s private space sector

This funding round is pivotal for India’s rapidly expanding private space sector. Global investor interest in space startups has surged since the central government opened the space industry to private enterprises. Pixxel is among the select Indian startups establishing a strong foothold in the global commercial space and Earth-observation markets.
