Audi India EV Plans: Will Audi Manufacture Electric Cars in India? Decision Expected in Coming Months
Audi India EV Plans: German luxury carmaker Audi is working on plans to manufacture its battery-operated electric cars in India. Balbir Singh Dhillon, the company’s India Brand Director, stated in an interview with PTI that a decision regarding this could be reached within the next few months. If the company begins local production, it could boost the presence of its electric cars in the Indian market.
Targeting Increased Market Share
Audi aims to expand its market share in India’s luxury car segment. Currently, the company holds a market share of approximately 8 percent. It has set a target to increase this to between 15 and 16 percent over the next three to five years.
To achieve this, the company will focus on three key areas: providing a superior customer experience, launching new models, and expanding its dealership network across the country. Audi expects these measures to strengthen its foothold in the Indian market.
Hopes Pinned on India-EU Agreement
Audi also intends to leverage the proposed Free Trade Agreement (FTA) between India and the European Union. This would allow the company to introduce more models in India and better understand the types of cars that interest customers.
Initially, the company plans to gauge demand by launching select models in the Indian market through imports. This data will help inform the decision regarding local production. However, Audi remains committed to local production in India for its key models.
Expanding Dealership Network to Smaller Cities
Audi’s plans extend beyond major metropolitan areas. Next year, the company will place significant emphasis on expanding its network into Tier-2 and Tier-3 cities. This strategy involves entering new cities and converting some existing facilities into showrooms for new cars. According to the company, the proposed India-EU agreement could also boost export opportunities for the Indian automobile industry. Audi expects to increase its market share in India’s luxury car segment through new models, an enhanced customer experience, and an expanded showroom network.
