WhatsApp launches biggest privacy campaign Not Even WhatsApp

WhatsApp has launched the Not Even WhatsApp global campaign, which emphasizes that no one, not even the Meta-owned messaging service, can see or listen to users’ messages. This is WhatsApp’s biggest marketing campaign to date, meant to offer better privacy to its more than 3 billion users worldwide. The campaign begins with a brand manifesto TV spot directed by Achove of Chalk & Cheese Films. The TV spot has been shot in multiple locations across Delhi, including locations like Yamuna riverbank and Chandni Chowk. The 60-second spot also features some of the most popular names in India, including Aamir Khan, voiced in Hindi and English. Let’s know more about it.

WhatsApp is rolling out its “Not Even WhatsApp” global privacy campaign across TV online video, digital, (D)OOH, audio and in-app in India, the US, the UK, Brazil and Mexico. In India, the campaign will continue in 16 states including Delhi, Maharashtra and Karnataka. The initiative follows the rollout of Advanced Chat Privacy, a new setting for one-on-one and group chats that prevents content from being shared outside WhatsApp. It builds on existing features such as Privacy Checkup, which encourages users to strengthen their account security and customize privacy settings in one location.

What does the privacy campaign mean?

The advertisement offers users a perspective from the other side of the phone screen, showing how even WhatsApp cannot access users’ messages. The campaign emphasizes that daily messages such as voice notes sent to family, selfies, conversations with friends or personal conversations are also private. This privacy is made clear through WhatsApp’s end-to-end encryption. This makes it clear that users’ messages and calls remain only between them and their contacts. No one outside the conversation can see their texts, listen to their calls, or share them.
