This company got the contract to lay the rail track of the bullet train! Government handed over a contract worth Rs 5000 crore
The Transportation Infrastructure Business Unit of Larsen & Toubro (L&T) has secured a big order for the Mumbai-Ahmedabad High-Speed Rail Corridor (MAHSR). The National High-Speed Rail Corporation Limited (NHSRCL) has entrusted the company with the task of designing, supplying, manufacturing, testing and commissioning the 156 km long ballastless track. This contract is known as ‘Package T1’, whose value is said to be between Rs 2,500 crore and Rs 5,000 crore.
High-speed track will be built from Mumbai to Gujarat
This project will extend from Mumbai’s Bandra-Kurla Complex to Gujarat’s Jaroli village. In this, 21 km of track will be built in underground parts and about 135 km of track will be built on elevated viaduct. The company informed the stock exchange that this project falls under the ‘large order’ category. Which according to L&T is fixed for projects with a value of Rs 2500 crore to Rs 5000 crore.
Second big contract, now more than half the track work is with L&T
L&T had earlier received the order of ‘Package T3’ from NHSRCL in April 2022, under which 116 km track is being laid from the south of Vadodara city to Sabarmati depot. After getting the new package T1, L&T has got the responsibility of more than half the track work of the bullet train project. The entire Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train project is 508 km long, which has been divided into several packages and handed over to the companies.
Work will be done with Japanese Shinkansen technology
Japan’s high-speed Shinkansen J slab track technology will be used in this project, which supports trains up to a speed of 320 km per hour. This technology will provide better travel experience, longer lasting track and easy maintenance. L&T is already a pioneer in ballastless track technology and is working on metro projects like Bengaluru, Chennai, Mumbai. Company director S.V. Desai said that ‘Our previous success was due to adoption of technology and indigenization. With the same confidence, we will complete this new order on time.’
