LIC increases stake in ACC to over 10%; also buys stake in NBCC India; learn investment details
Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC) has increased its stake in Adani Group’s cement company, ACC Limited, to over 10%. LIC purchased over 3.7 million shares of ACC from the open market.
Similarly, LIC has also increased its stake in PSU stock NBCC India to 4.5%. These purchases occurred in recent months, and LIC disclosed this in a regulatory filing today (Friday, November 28).
This move by LIC has caught the attention of stock market investors. These changes may be part of LIC’s long-term investment strategy. ACC shares are trading down 1.13% today, around ₹1,849. NBCC stock is trading down 0.19%, at ₹117.20.
How LIC increased its stake in ACC
LIC increased its holding in ACC Limited from 8.58% to 10.59%. To achieve this, the company purchased 37,82,029 equity shares between May 20, 2025, and November 25, 2025, representing 2.01% of the company’s total equity. Previously, LIC held 16,115,035 shares, which has now increased to 19,897,064.
These purchases were made entirely through the open market route; they were neither a preferential allotment, a rights issue, or an off-market transfer. In a regulatory filing, LIC clearly stated that these investments were made through market purchases.
ACC’s stock fell 15% in a year
ACC is a leading cement company of the Adani Group, which has a strong position in the construction and infrastructure sectors. However, its stock has fallen by more than 15% in the past year and by 3% in six months. It gained 3% in three months, but remained flat last month. Five-year returns have been 9%. The company’s market cap is ₹35,000 crore.
LIC also purchased shares in NBCC India
LIC purchased 3,024,672 shares in NBCC India between April 25, 2018, and November 24, 2025, representing 2.07% of the voting capital. This increased LIC’s holding from 1,17,866,918 shares to 1,20,891,590 shares. However, the percentage declines from 6.55% to 4.48%. This is due to the increase in NBCC’s voting capital base, from 180 million shares to 270 million.
NBCC is a central PSU engaged in construction projects and real estate development. Its performance has been impressive. The stock has returned 18% over the past year. Growth in the past month has been 6%.
