Adani Group to set up 1600 MW power plant in Mirzapur, promising affordable electricity and job creation
The proposed 1600 MW coal-based ultra-supercritical power plant by Adani Power Limited in Dadri Khurd village of Sadar tehsil in Mirzapur district, Uttar Pradesh, has entered the construction phase. The project has already received approval from the Uttar Pradesh government and was allocated to the Adani Group through a competitive bidding process.
Affordable electricity at ₹5.38 per unit for 25 years
Following the recent approval of the Power Supply Agreement (PSA) for the thermal power project by the regulatory commission, the path has been cleared for the supply of 1500 MW of electricity to Uttar Pradesh for 25 years. The commission has fixed the electricity rate at ₹5.38 per unit, which is expected to provide the state with a long-term and reliable power supply.
According to project estimates, the construction work is expected to generate approximately 8,000 to 9,000 direct and indirect jobs. Once the plant becomes operational, around 2,000 people will be employed permanently. The use of ultra-supercritical technology is expected to make the plant more efficient in energy production with relatively lower emissions.
According to the local administration, the project also holds the potential for the development of infrastructure, transportation, and ancillary industries in the region. The commencement of construction is expected to boost economic activity in this area, which has long struggled with limited industrial activity and a lack of employment opportunities.
In addition, the Adani Foundation is conducting various social responsibility programs in Mirzapur. Under the Foundation’s Vision Care program, more than 23,000 school children, women, and elderly people have already received eye examinations and treatment services.
