Elon Musk’s satellite internet company, Starlink, is gearing up to launch operations in India. While there has been no official announcement yet, reports suggest this is underway. Recently, a tipster named DogeDesigner revealed details on the microblogging site X, indicating that SpaceX has started assembling a supply chain team in Bengaluru. It is worth noting that Elon Musk has previously responded to posts by this user, who has now shared information regarding the formation of the supply chain team. DogeDesigner stated that SpaceX is preparing for Starlink’s entry into India. The company is building a supply chain team in Bengaluru, covering four key roles: Starlink terminal manufacturing, RF integration, injection molding, and global supply management. However, final approval for the launch is still pending.
Responding to an earlier post by DogeDesigner, Elon Musk had remarked that Starlink would be highly beneficial for underserved regions in India, particularly in rural areas.
No Central Government Approval Yet
Starlink has not yet received approval from the Indian government to launch its internet services. However, some state governments have signed Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) regarding the service. The company has been attempting to launch satellite internet services in the country for several years. While the project has already commenced in nations like Bangladesh and Sri Lanka—and plans are underway for Pakistan—a launch in India would allow the company to establish a strong foothold in Asia.
