Amazon’s Big Announcement! Fast delivery in 300 cities and scholarships for partners’ children
Amazon has announced a major expansion of its quick commerce business in India. The company states that it is preparing to extend its ‘Amazon Now’ service to over 300 cities across the country. Just last month, Amazon revealed that the service had reached 100 cities. According to the company, Amazon Now has become the fastest-growing e-commerce business unit in its history in India, with order volumes doubling every quarter.
In a press release, Amazon stated that it would expand its specialized fulfillment network to support this growth. This involves establishing a network of micro-fulfillment centers and urban fulfillment centers. The company aims to offer customers delivery options at varying speeds tailored to their specific needs.
The company noted that Amazon Now would enable the delivery of thousands of everyday items within timeframes ranging from a few minutes to a few hours. These include groceries, fruits and vegetables, frozen food, personal care products, fashion items, beauty products, small electronic appliances, and household goods. Additionally, options for Same-Day Delivery on over a million products and Next-Day Delivery on more than 4 million products will be available.
Currently, Amazon Now operates in 15 metro and non-metro cities across the country. According to the company, the service reaches approximately 50 million customers. Cities such as Bengaluru, Delhi-NCR, Mumbai, Pune, Hyderabad, Amritsar, and Kochi are already part of this network.
Alongside the expansion of its quick commerce network, Amazon has launched a new welfare program named “Sammaan” for its delivery partners. This initiative is part of the company’s recently announced $300 million investment aimed at the well-being of its operations and delivery associates. According to Amazon, educational scholarships will be provided to the children of delivery associates under the ‘Sammaan’ program. Additionally, the initiative will include benefits such as financial inclusion programs, enrollment in government schemes, health and life insurance coverage, and on-road safety measures. Amazon plans to increase the number of ‘Ashray’ rest centers to 250 this year. The company states that delivery workers from the entire e-commerce industry will be able to use these facilities.
