The world set to use India’s first ‘Made in India’ commercial chip

This week marks a significant milestone for India’s semiconductor sector. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Sanand, Gujarat, this Saturday to hand over the first consignment of India’s first commercial semiconductor chip to an international buyer. This event is not merely ceremonial; it is viewed as a major landmark in India’s semiconductor mission. For the first time, a commercial chip manufactured in India will be exported abroad; the consignment is destined for a buyer in Japan.

First commercial chip to roll out from CG Power plant

Prime Minister Modi is scheduled to arrive at CG Power’s CG Semicon OSAT plant in Sanand around 4 PM on Saturday. From this location, the first consignment of commercial semiconductor chips will be officially dispatched to the international customer. The company and the administration have ramped up preparations to make this occasion historic.

Waterproof tent set up for 2,000 people

Extensive preparations are underway at the CG Power plant ahead of the Prime Minister’s visit. A waterproof tent with a capacity to accommodate approximately 2,000 people has been erected for the ceremony. Special attention is being paid to every aspect, ranging from security arrangements to technical preparations.

Massive investment of ₹7,600 crore

CG Power has invested approximately ₹7,600 crore in its semiconductor OSAT (Outsourced Semiconductor Assembly and Test) plant in Sanand. Spanning nearly 42 acres, this plant is considered a crucial component of India’s semiconductor ecosystem.

The plant will handle the packaging and testing of semiconductor chips—a vital stage in the overall chip manufacturing process.
