In recent months, companies carried out massive layoffs, banking heavily on Artificial Intelligence (AI). Hundreds of thousands of employees lost their jobs within a year. Driven by the AI ​​boom, companies believed that AI could replace human workers, rendering the staff unnecessary. However, this strategy now appears to be backfiring. There is good news for employees who lost their jobs due to AI; tech companies have started hiring again. A CNBC report suggests that companies now regret laying off staff in favor of AI, which they had expected to handle “everything.” They have realized that driving a business forward without human employees is extremely difficult. Consequently, companies are rehiring staff to propel their businesses. Meanwhile, investors remain concerned about the sustainability of the current AI surge in financial markets.

Automotive giant Ford is among the latest companies to resume hiring, bringing back hundreds of experienced human engineers. The company stated that automated systems were unable to resolve quality-related issues, necessitating human intervention. Charles Poon, Ford’s Vice President of Vehicle Hardware Engineering, told the media that while AI is a fantastic tool, its effectiveness depends entirely on the quality of data used to train it.

Ford is not alone; several other major companies have also begun hiring again, including Australia’s Commonwealth Bank and software giant IBM. Last year, CBA laid off over 40 customer service employees, replacing them with AI voice bots. However, the AI ​​system could not handle the workload, leading to a surge in call volumes and forcing CBA to reverse its decision to lay off staff. Overall, companies are now beginning to realize that AI cannot replace humans in many areas—particularly in fields like quality and customer service!
