Amazon has announced 1.6 lakh jobs in India! Yes, you heard that right. One of the world’s largest e-commerce companies has made a major announcement regarding the festive season. With September underway, a series of festivals is set to begin in India in October and continue for several months. During this period, the demand for products and deliveries surges, making it challenging to keep up. In response to this, Amazon India has announced the creation of 1.6 lakh jobs. Amazon India is offering over 1.5 lakh job opportunities in the country, specifically for the festive season. These are temporary roles, totaling approximately 160,000 positions. According to NDTV, the company announced these jobs to meet the rising demand expected during the upcoming festive season.
The jb openings cover more than 400 cities, including not only major metropolitan areas but also Tier-2 and Tier-3 cities. Essentially, this will serve as a seasonal workforce, helping to ensure smooth operations during the period of high demand. The newly hired employees will assist with picking, packing, shipping, and delivering customer orders during the festive period.
Opportunities for Women and Persons with Disabilities
A notable feature of this recruitment drive is the variety of roles available, including specific opportunities for women and persons with disabilities. Furthermore, the company will provide training to new hires. Cities such as Varanasi, Kochi, Jalandhar, Ghaziabad, Ranchi, Salem, and Gorakhpur are included in the list. The company stated that the recruitment drive encompasses opportunities for both direct and indirect roles across its operational network in India.
Amazon is continuously expanding its fulfillment and logistics infrastructure in India. The company stated that over 1.7 million sellers are connected to its pan-India network. It operates fulfillment centers across 15 states, with a reported storage capacity exceeding 43 million cubic feet. The company also has sortation centers in 19 states and approximately 2,000 Amazon-operated and partner delivery stations. Additionally, it works with around 28,000 hub delivery partners and thousands of ‘Flex’ partners to facilitate last-mile delivery.
