Layoffs Resume at Oracle: Employees Received Emails at 6 AM; 21,000 Staff Previously Affected

According to a Business Insider report, Oracle has once again initiated employee layoffs. Affected staff received early-morning emails informing them that their positions had been eliminated as part of a major organizational restructuring.

When did these cuts take place?

This new round of job cuts began on Monday. Affected employees shared news of their layoffs on platforms such as LinkedIn, Reddit, and Blind. Oracle has not disclosed the number of employees impacted by this latest round of layoffs.

What was the reason for the layoffs?

According to an internal notification, employees were informed that their roles were being eliminated due to “major organizational restructuring.” Reports indicate that the day they received the notification was also their final day of work.

What did the email say?

The email stated, “Access to your computer, email, voicemail, and files will soon be terminated, and you will no longer be able to log in to your computer. Please be reminded that you are prohibited from downloading, copying, or retaining any information.”

These new cuts at Oracle come at a time when the company is massively expanding its data center infrastructure to meet the rising demand for artificial intelligence and cloud services.

How much is Oracle spending on AI infrastructure?

Oracle spent $28.5 billion in capital expenditure during the first quarter of the 2026-27 fiscal year. This figure is more than three times the $8.5 billion spent during the same period a year ago. To support increased investment in data centers and AI infrastructure, the company has maintained its full-year capital expenditure forecast in the range of $90 billion to $95 billion. Demand for Oracle’s AI cloud services has also surged. The company reported signing additional AI cloud contracts worth over $30 billion during the quarter, bringing its total remaining performance obligations (a backlog of future contract revenue) to $664 billion.

Has Oracle conducted layoffs before?

The recent layoffs follow significant workforce reductions carried out by Oracle during the 2026 fiscal year. Oracle’s global workforce shrank by approximately 21,000 employees, or 13%. According to the company’s annual filing, it had about 141,000 employees at the end of this period, down from approximately 162,000 a year earlier.

Oracle spent approximately $1.84 billion on restructuring-related layoffs and other exit costs during fiscal year 2026, compared to $374 million the previous year. The company had previously stated that a portion of the workforce reduction was linked to the adoption and implementation of AI in its operations.
